Since Josh’s grandparents live in Prescott, Arizona we were able to explore around this great town while we were visiting. Prescott is a great town to visit, it doesn’t get nearly as hot at Phoenix in the summer and the landscape is beautiful. There are mountains, lakes and plenty of trails to explore. In Downtown Prescott a visit to Whiskey Row is always worth a visit. We refrained from drinking any whiskey on this trip since half of our group were underage but I would recommend grabbing a shot of whiskey (if you are of drinking age) at The Palace where you can enjoy hanging out with some cowboys.
If you find yourself in Prescott during the summertime then be sure to check out the yearly rodeo that comes into town. Apparently Prescott has the oldest running rodeo which brings in hoards of cowboys and cowgirls…which means if you know where to look you might find yourself in the middle of a Rodeo Dance. If you do, make sure you’re wearing some flannel, otherwise you might stand out.
Prescott is also home to some pretty beautiful places, one being Watson Lake. Watson Lake is quite beautiful and definitely worth a visit. If the weather isn’t too hot then you can even enjoy kayaking out on the lake.
Prescott is also home to Thumbe Butte, one of the natural landmarks that looks like…you guessed it a thumb!
Depending on the season you can hike all the way to the top of Thumb Butte. The hike itself is quite steep, there are two trails that guide you to the top. I believe the trail on the left is the paved trail…and my choice to get to the top of the Thumb. If you find yourself on the way to the top you will be able to enjoy some pretty amazing views of Prescott.
There are many things to do when visiting Prescott and I think anyone visiting would find something they would enjoy!
