Cherry Blossoms in Seoul 영등포 여의도 봄꽃축제

This past weekend while Josh and I were up in Seoul we thought it would be a fun idea to stop by the Spring Flower Festival in Seoul 영등포 여의도 봄꽃축제 to see some of the beautiful flowers in bloom. The biggest cherry blossom viewing takes place in Jinhae where there is a yearly festival celebrating the arrival of the flowers, but we were unable to attend due to being in Jeonju during the festival weekend. Travelling around Korea you cansee various cherry blossom trees scattered throughout the landscape. They stand out with their white to pinkish blooms that contrast against the typically green environment.

We decided to venture around and see the beautiful flowering trees and we were not alone. The flowers bloom just when the weather is get nice and there were plenty of others enjoying the blooms and the warmer temperatures. The streets where the trees bloom were filled with people and snack tables setup so that you can munch on some treats while enjoying the flowers.

Although I wasn’t expecting such heavy crowds out I did really enjoy walking around Seoul and enjoying the sunshine and flower petals raining down. If was great to walk around and not have to be wearing two jackets.

I think something to keep in mind while in Korea at the start of Spring is that there will be Spring flower trees blooming everywhere. For some reason I thought that the flowers would only be prominent at actual cherry blossom festivals or spring flower festivals, but that is not the case. I think if you just took some time to wander around you could come across some flowering trees in almost every city. Even out here in the country there were plenty of flowering cherry blossom trees that were beautiful and there were no people out taking selfies in front of them.

Even when we were on our way to a tour of Seokjojeon Hall in Deoksugung Palace we stopped and enjoyed the cherry blossom trees that were blooming there. I guess my point is that you don’t need to go to an actual cherry blossom/flower festival to enjoy the flowers, when it is their time to bloom they will bloom everywhere, making it easy for you to enjoy the flowers.

Something pretty magical about the blossoms is that when they are full in bloom and the wind passes through, the light pink flower petals flutter around like snow. Apparently if you catch one of these falling flower petals, then you will be given a wish!

Korea is a beautiful country, year round. I think the Spring flowers blooming are just one of the changing seasons that make this country so pretty.
