Our final night in Bangkok we went to not one, but two rooftop bars. The first bar was on top of a restaurant named Sala and boasted an amazing view of both Wat Pho and Wat Arun. We ordered some drinks and enjoyed a nice dinner with some pretty good views of both of the temples. The restaurant/bar was nice and had tasty food, but definitely go for the view because the service is pretty horrible. Also, on a side note…lather yourself with mosquito spray if you are going to be outdoors at night in Thailand. They sell one with a pink spray tip in most convenience stores that worked really well (when applied).
We ended the night hanging out on the Sirocco rooftop bar on the very top of the Lebua Hotel. This was pretty amazing, since you are on the top of one of the tallest buildings in Bangkok looking out on the entire city. The views are pretty amazing (if you can get past the smog) but the bar itself is HORRIBLE. There is a small deck area with a bar in the middle and it is filled with people. There are tables around for those who want to have dinner on the top, but if you are not in the entrance area then you are shuffled to the tiny bar. It is crowded and hard to get a drink up there. My suggestion is to go take some pictures (ask one of the hotel staff…they know the best angles) grab a quick beer and then leave.
This would be our last hoorah for Thailand. After visiting three cities in Thailand (Phuket, Chiang Mai and Bangkok) I would have to say I enjoyed Phuket the most. Phuket for me was all about the islands and beaches, a relaxing beach vacation place with a pretty wild night life. Chiang Mai was amazing and had the mildest temperatures. We had a short stay in Chiang Mai but I would go back to visit the elephants at Elephant Nature Park and enjoy the delicious Kao Soi (curry noodle soup). Bangkok was very much like any other big city I have been in…traffic and pollution. As city travel is one of my least favorite I doubt I would go back to Bangkok but I am glad we went and would recommend it to someone highly interested in the temples and nightlife.
