Winter Vacation Day 3/Night 4 Phi Phi Island: Ferry and a Bucket

Day 3 of our Winter Vacation (sounds funny calling it a winter vacation when we were able to enjoy such warm climates!) started off with a 2 hour ferry ride from Phuket to the island of Phi Phi. Once we arrived in Phi Phi we wandered around with a stupid amount of luggage on mud roads looking for our hotel. After about 45 minutes and no luck Natalie and I stopped off for some lunch while Josh ventured forth alone. He came back about 30 minutes later with someone who worked at the hotel who had a rolling cart!!! Since the island is so small there are not many roads for vehicles. To solve this the people of Phi Phi use large rolling carts to lug big items around the island. Thank goodness too because the hotel we picked for Phi Phi was high up on a hill. It had amazing views and was far enough away from the beach partying that rages on until around 4 in the morning.

Just one of the many delicious meals we had on the island...this one is Chicken Panang which is chicken and veggies in red curry....delicious!

That night we played beer pong at a bar owned by some Scandinavians and were lectured on the dangers of using hand sanitizer. This was also when I had my first bucket. Buckets are a bit infamous on Phi Phi, they are small plastic buckets (like mini versions of the buckets you used to make sandcastles) that are filled with various alcohols. If you buy a bucket at a bar it will come pre-mixed and you can choose the flavor/alcohol. Other buckets are sold on the street and after you pick the bucket you want its up to you to mix it all together. After reading online about the infamous Phi Phi buckets I knew I would have to try one for myself. The first bucket selected ended up tasting like alcoholic cherry coke so I was a fan. But, I have to say (and maybe this is because I drink too much tequila) I was a bit underwhelmed by the bucket…..although it did take us about an hour to finish our round of beer pong so maybe the bucket was stronger than I am giving it credit for.

Beer pong anyone?

Beer pong anyone?

After finishing our round of beer pong we took a quick walk to the beach and watched some of the fire shows that take place on Phi Phi once the sun goes down. It was pretty impressive to watch the guys dancing with fire!

After the fire shows it's time to party...just read that sign!

We then ended the night with what else, massages!

So, if I was to strip down and go on stage I’d get a free bucket? 🙂 I’d be all like “phuket, I’m gettin’ naked and gettin’ me a free P.P. bucket!” 🙂

I’m sure you wouldn’t be the first! Or the last! We didn’t see anyone stripping for a free bucket, but we didn’t stay out all night that night.
