So, Korea is pretty famous for having some pretty out there cafes- cat cafes, Hello Kitty cafes, just to name a couple. Also in Korea enjoying the outdoors is HUGE, many Koreans spend their weekends climbing the many mountains that cover almost all of Korea. So, when you combine this love of enjoying the outdoors with a knack for themed cafes what do you get??? You get the camping restaurant. There seems to be some of these camping themed restaurants scattered throughout Korea (so far Josh and I have seen 3 total) but the one we decided to try was located in Seomyeong and called Dining Camp.
The layout of the restaurant is pretty cool, they have a faux rock climbing wall, various camping themed items hanging from rope on the ceiling and the table are all on a metal table with a grill in the middle. You sit on camping chairs while you eat and all the utensils and plates are metal and what you might find while camping!
For our feast our friend purchased a pre-set menu from Korea’s equivalent to Groupon and it included-sausages (a must for any camping related meal), shrimp, pork, beef, potatoes, mushrooms and all the kimchi you can eat (and I can eat alot). We also ordered some Ramen (it was the instant kind) which came in a metal bucket/bowl thing that we were told is how the soldiers in the Korean army cook and eat their Ramen…pretty cool.
I have to say this was a pretty fun experience, Josh and I have really been missing going out on the weekends and camping in the woods, and even though we didn’t have a campfire or stay overnight this trip to Dining Camp really hit the spot. It took one of the best parts of camping (sitting around eating and talking) and made it as easy as possible. You get to enjoy relaxing around food being cooked over a fire and have none of the stress of cleaning up, packing up and then hiking with everything on your back.
