Japan Day 5 Part 2…Arashiyama Bamboo Forest & Tenryuji Temple

For the second part of our fifth day in Japan Josh and I visited the Arashiyama Bamboo Forest, which was quite beautiful. There was a walkway in the middle of the forest and many rickshaw runners taking couples on a scenic tour of the area. As you might imagine all the ricksahw runners were in great shape and we were even surprised to see that there were a couple women pulling the rickshaws. I couldn’t allow myself to be pulled around in the crazy heat so Josh and I did the walk the old fashioned way, with our own two feet.

After we had walked around the Bamboo Forest we stumbled across a garden on our way back to the subway station. We walked around and took pictures of the garden before heading back for our room. Unfortunately I didn’t keep track of the garden’s name, so it will remain random garden in Kyoto in my memory. Overall I have to say that I really did like Kyoto in comparison to Tokyo. Kyoto has a much more peaceful atmosphere and you are never too far from a shrine or garden, even in the more populated parts of the city.

Yes the bamboo was quite impressive…the funny part was Josh wanting to pull people in the rickshaws…he wanted the exercise!
