Apparently I am somewhat of a delicacy to the local bugs…because they are eating me alive! I finally ordered some Badger Bug Balm (after getting around 12 mosquito bites in 3 weeks) which helped keep the mosquitoes at bay. And that’s when the spiders came! So I got 2 gigantic spider bites on the right leg and they swelled to the size of half dollars, so naturally I became worried. Even putting on some bug cream didn’t decrease the swelling so I asked my boss if I should see a doctor and he sent me right away! There is a clinic right outside the gates of the school, so in the middle of the working day I made the 5 minute trek to the clinic (with Josh, apparently our director thought I needed an escort, and I was happy to have the moral support) to show the local doctor my bug bites.
The clinic is a small 2 story building with a receptionist and the doctor. We were the only people visiting the clinic when we arrived and the doctor quickly came to the conclusion that the spider bites weren’t anything to worry about but he still gave me 4 days worth of a 6-pill regimen to take away the itchiness (3 pills in the morning and 3 pills at night). Josh was really hesitant for me to take the medication as we had no idea of knowing what it was and the sheer amount of pills was kind of scary but he wasn’t the one waking up in the middle of the night because of CRAZY ITCHINESS so I took the pills and they worked. I think one of them was some sort of tranquilizer as I slept like a dead person for 2 nights.
Conclusion: Success! To see the doctor and get all the pills it cost me about $1.10! Thank goodness for my Korean health care.
